It's just - genuinely, it's just astounding. (...also amazing, and other relevant publications...) What it makes me think of most is the sculptor Theotocopulos's global broadcast in Things to Come - if President Eisenhower had been able to include video, it would essentially have been that, already! Though of course with a very different, and I must say better, message.

I would have to think that if rockets become reliable enough, communications satellites would have to outstrip wire transmission over time, at least for general broadcasts, just because maintaining all those wires - particularly over mountains - is awfully expensive. And while rockets aren't exactly cheap either, once nuclear batteries are perfected, a single successfully-launched satellite, with sufficiently redundant circuitry, could function for decades - if not longer!

Imagine concerts, broadcast live, from the world's greatest orchestras, to theatres and maybe even homes all over the world. Access to the fine performing arts could become truly democratic. Tho' I must wonder what a home antenna for a satellite broadcast would look like - would it have to be like those huge radar things?

...on second thought, I don't think I want that on my roof. The regular television antenna is quite enough!
