Oooo, what a lovely quote.

I did, in fact, tear into Willy Ley's article first thing. Unfortunately, it's merely Part 2 of his article on deep sea life, and it's very short.

It is interesting that the deep sea is attracting nearly as much attention as outer space. I understand there may well be Aquanauts as well as Astronauts--people who spend long periods of time under the water as sort of a prelude to oceanic colonization. Part of the heightened interest may be due to the recent (August 3, 1958) submerged expedition under the North Pole made by the U.S.S. Nautilus. It was even a nuclear-powered submarine. It's hard to get more "science-fiction is fact" than that!
