Oh my goodness, I didn't expect travelogues. ♥ I haven't been to Japan since (does calendar conversion math) '51, back finally as a tourist, after working as a translator after the war. They'd come so far, rebuilding, so quickly, even then - it's just astounding!
There's this new company - well, really an old company, but they've changed their name - Sony? Pronounced with a long O, like 'so knee,' not like 'sonny'. Anyway, my friend Mariko, who I worked with in Yokohama, sent me one of their build-it-yourself transistor-radio kits. I had a heck of a time getting it together, but it works just marvellously. And now they're selling assembled versions, even smaller, back in the states! I love how tiny they are. So functional, and so cute!
We're hoping to go back again in a few years and are saving up for a trip. I hear Tokyo's bidding for the Olympics - maybe we'd go for that! That'd be quite the spectacle.
Ooh, now I'm all excited! I hope you'll share more photos from your trip.
