Perhaps I should have waited till after finishing the whole issue; but I'm dropping a thank you for that excellent Cat and Mouse. Ed's pov is so well done all through the story. That bit where he passes through the door, and likes the mixture of dirts - a masterful touch. We see things the more solidly through such things as his noticing the land is hunted out
Everything about the hostile aliens( including the tobacco phobia), too, is both original and convincing. And so is the venue. And the ranger is an unusually good (and reasonable) alien puppeteer.
And I can't resist one quote: Ed's reflexes were not quite as fast as they had been when he was young, but they were better educated.
The Old Tom parallel made it even better. I'm so sorry we've lost a master story teller.
edit: finished the other two, and enjoyed them both. The Time Is Not to Be Messed With is generally so angsty and dramatic - I prefer it this way.
