It's interesting comparing them to the ones made just a few years before Sputnik. Everyone was pretty sure it was going to happen, but the time frames were generally further out. I don't think anyone expected IRBMs and ICBMs to be developed so quickly. From contract to delivery, the Thor took just four years. The Titan I and Atlas are coming soon.
