I loved the Merritt fic. I hope that rich, romantic old style of writing doesn't stay out of fashion too long. The inn keeper's part at the end made it much better.

I've already read the Anderson, unfortunately; and agree that the ending makes it (to quote the fantasist Gray) an unnecessary bit of cheap savagery
